Start with the question the test answers

A useful test begins with a clear purpose. BalanceTest is a dried blood spot test for information about fatty acids. Its laboratory analysis covers 11 fatty acids and presents six related markers, including an omega-6:3 ratio. It is not a complete picture of your diet or a general assessment of your health.

Before ordering, think about what you would do with that information. You might want to understand the test process, learn the meaning of a marker or keep a record while reviewing your eating habits. A specific question makes the results easier to approach than a general hope that one test will explain everything.

Read the result in context

A ratio is a relationship between measured values. It should be read alongside the rest of the report and the explanation supplied with it. A prominent score can be convenient, but reducing a report to one number loses context. Take time to check the marker name, units and any accompanying notes before drawing conclusions.

Keep your original report rather than only a screenshot of the headline result. If you compare reports later, use the same marker names and check that you are comparing like with like. Your own notes about dates and changes can help you remember the circumstances without turning the result into a medical interpretation.

Know the limits

BalanceTest is a self-screening test for nutritional information. Its results should not be used to diagnose, treat or cure a condition. A result does not establish why you feel tired, explain a persistent symptom or replace a clinical assessment. If those are your concerns, a conversation with a healthcare professional is the appropriate next step.

There is also a difference between observing a change and proving its cause. If you change several habits between reports, the comparison alone cannot tell you which change produced the difference. Avoid using a personal result as proof that a supplement will create the same outcome for somebody else.

Prepare for a useful conversation

Write down the questions you want answered: what is being measured, how do I collect the sample, where will I access the report, and what happens if a sample cannot be analysed? Follow the instructions supplied with your kit carefully. Keep the identifying information somewhere safe so you can access your results.

Our role is to explain the product journey and help you find official information. You do not need to share a diagnosis to ask a product question. If you take medication or have a medical concern, ask your clinician about suitability before changing your routine. An informed next step should feel clear, proportionate and unhurried.
